How I made my kids stop having screen times
Our sons rarely ask for screen time anymore. They usually ask to watch TV every morning and afternoon after they take a nap. I let them watch at 10am up to lunch time cause they like it and I can do the things that I need to do while they are watching, the same in the afternoon, I let them watch from 5pm until bedtime, I know, I know, that is a lot of screen time, but it is what makes them behave - or so I thought.
It is only until the time we lost our internet connection for a day, they cannot watch and didn't have a choice, because we do not have cable TV. For a whole day they didn't have screen time. They kept on asking and I just told them there's no internet connection and they went on to play together.
By the end of the day, I was surprised that they survived without screen time, as in really surprised. I thought they will get bored and give me hard time the whole day but they didn't. They just played with their toys together, they played with their bike and toy cars (which they rarely use because TV > bikes/toy cars).
This is why the next day, even though the internet connection was back, I still told them it's still not fixed, they just went on and played together. I tried it for a week and the longer they don't have it, the lesser they ask. They still ask every once in a while, I still let them watch, but they don't whine and ask for it majority of the time anymore. They got more creative on what to do with their time and was so glad that the internet connection got lost that day. 😊
Will be posting the good effects of having no screen time on my next blog. 😉
Love,
Karla
